The commercial fishery for bluefin tuna is closing down through the end of year by order of the federal government after being open just six days.

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration is closing the commercial bluefin fishery, because based on its best available landings information, the 48.7 metric ton quota for the December catch of the popular sushi fish is projected to be reached and exceeded on Wednesday, Dec. 6, by 11:30 p.m. The fishery had reopened Dec. 1 after being closed most of the last two months.
