In February 1974, 36 men were tragically lost when the freezer trawler Gaul went missing in the Barents Sea off the coast of Norway.

The disappearance of the modern, state-of-the-art vessel sent shockwaves through Hull, a port that was sadly accustomed to the unforgiving nature of the sea and the terrible toll it had taken on fishing families. Fifty years on, the city is remembering the tragedy with a series of events this week.
