The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is considering new rules that would push commercial menhaden fishing farther offshore and increase penalties for wasted fish.
The proposals come three weeks after two menhaden fishing companies dumped about 850,000 fish in the waters off Cameron Parish, and a year after nearly 1 million fish were dumped in the same area.
